(But not when it comes to analyzing emotions, which would imply to me that they are likely to experience emotions all the more intensely without the ability to rationalize them away.)Lynn Ungarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12674803547032895797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31775023.post-52292011293608951012011-02-02T17:03:27.268-05:002011-02-02T17:03:27.268-05:00Well, Happy Imbolc to you however you celebrate it...Well, Happy Imbolc to you however you celebrate it!Sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07884797351411470248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31775023.post-57043486903862448502011-02-02T14:55:25.534-05:002011-02-02T14:55:25.534-05:00I've been working on (I'm in the mulling s...I've been working on (I'm in the mulling stage) a collage on Colony Collapse Disorder. It is typical of our strangely narrow way of thinking that we don't see that the end of bees would be disastrous for humans.

A few years ago, our kids at UUCPA decided to split their collection between the Rainforest Action Network and an organization I forget--it might even have been for post-Katrina rebuilding--in any case, it was focused on human communities. An adult at church described this as "giving half to people and half to animals." I asked her to rephrase that. The children seemed to understand that saving the rainforest is about saving people, and I didn't want our adults to lead them off this path.Amyhttp://sermonsinstones.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31775023.post-19349401480673842892010-12-28T12:09:49.967-05:002010-12-28T12:09:49.967-05:00Excellent observation. I think it explains a great deal about the orgy of shopping that characterized this season -- it is not really materialism so much as a compulsive desire to acquire stuff -- and it meets the same need whether it is for one's self or someone else.Robert Scheidlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07887312225745819128noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31775023.post-88570173575594691092010-12-27T17:20:58.855-05:002010-12-27T17:20:58.855-05:00I am noticing this in our congregation, too. Diva, philosopher, hostess, generator of reality, opener of worlds. More and more I see voice as action- literally we walk our talk, we talk our walk- we vote with our feet. We are what we repeatedly do, and our expression comes out of that.Arcadianoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31775023.post-11311292585333863972010-10-20T09:44:48.186-04:002010-10-20T09:44:48.186-04:00So glad to be able to read your blog again (no pre...So glad to be able to read your blog again (no pressure intended for future contribution). I sorted it out a long time ago about school writing, but writing-for-preaching is a whole other thing, and it's only recently that I've really accepted my own voice as a sermon-writer. Likewise, I'm trying to own my "voice" (style, I guess) as an artist.

That last bit of your post is why I never took voice lessons--I knew instinctively that I didn't want to "classicize" my voice. Now, years later, I know that you can take voice lessons that aren't aimed at making your voice fit to sing arias. Maybe I could learn to be a blues singer . . .

Oh, and comment #3: love the new prolificness! It's such a treat to read these.Amyhttp://sermonsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31775023.post-34084482161612243802010-10-15T09:59:06.862-04:002010-10-15T09:59:06.862-04:00Well said, and very thoughtful.
